We are committed to creating a space where art, culture, and nature intersect, connecting people and communities to the past, present and shared future.

As we continue to work toward our goals to transform and evolve as one of the world’s foremost 21st-century museums, we seek passionate and dynamic team members who embody our mission and values.

WHO WE NEED

The Leacross Foundation Internship Program is a summer internship designed to support female-identifying undergraduate students in exploring careers in research, collections, and museums.

Five interns will work across different areas of the museum: Biodiversity, Earth & Space (including Climate Change), Fossils, Art & Culture, and Collections Care. Throughout the summer, interns will participate in cohort learning opportunities to gain exposure to ROM’s collections, research initiatives, and institutional work.

For the Leacross Foundation Internship – Collections Care, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student to support archival work related to ROM’s European collections.

This internship provides hands-on experience reviewing, organizing, and documenting archival materials while developing foundational skills in archival practice. Working closely with curators, collections specialists, and the museum archivist, the intern will contribute to improving access to archival materials while learning about preservation and collections stewardship in a museum setting.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
  • Survey and review archival materials related to ROM’s European collections in collaboration with curators and collections specialists
  • Assist with preliminary archival assessments to help evaluate the historical and institutional significance of records
  • Organize and arrange archival materials by classifying, cataloguing, and indexing items according to archival standards
  • Create and enhance descriptive metadata for archival records to support discoverability and long-term access
  • Support preservation planning by identifying appropriate storage and housing methods for different material types (e.g., paper records, photographs, ephemera, digital files)
  • Collaborate with fellow Leacross interns and participate in cohort learning activities to gain exposure to projects across the museum

WHAT YOU BRING
  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Archival Studies, Library or Information Science, Museum Studies, Cultural Heritage, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated academic interest in archives, museums, or collections care
  • Coursework or academic project experience related to archives, collections, research, or material culture
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when working with physical or digital records
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Word and Excel; experience with databases or collection management systems is an asset
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a professional museum environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn through mentorship and cohort learning opportunities
